Gynaecologist and IVF Centre in Bapunagar, Ahmedabad
A practical guide for women and couples coming to our Naroda hospital from Bapunagar — who you would see, what gynaecology, surgery and fertility treatment is done in-house, what is referred out, and what a visit costs.
Bapunagar is one of the east-Ahmedabad neighbourhoods our outpatient department sees most regularly. Women come to us along the Naroda road, usually because the problem has gone on long enough that a chemist’s advice is no longer enough — heavy periods, a delayed pregnancy, pain that has stopped being occasional, or a pregnancy that someone has described as high risk.
This page is written for those visits. It sets out who you would actually see at our Naroda hospital, what we can do under one roof — general gynaecology, surgery, pregnancy care and the full fertility programme including IVF and ICSI — what we deliberately do not do here, and what it costs. The aim is that a woman or a couple travelling in from Bapunagar knows what they are coming for before they leave home.
Who you would see
Cosmic Women’s Hospital & IVF Center is a registered Level 2 ART clinic in Naroda run by two consultants. Who you see depends on what you are coming for, not on which of us happens to be free.
Dr. Bhargavi Khatri (MBBS, MS Obgy Gold Medalist, FRM) leads the IVF programme. She also performs the caesarean sections, normal deliveries and D&C procedures, and does the ultrasound scanning. If you would prefer to be seen and operated on by a woman doctor, hers are the sessions to book — that is covered in more detail on our page for women looking for a female gynaecologist in Ahmedabad.
Dr. Rahul Khatri (MBBS, MS & DNB Obgy, FMAS) is the director and handles the advanced laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery — fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, adhesions, and diagnostic hysteroscopy.

What is treated here
The range is ordinary gynaecology and obstetrics done properly, rather than a long list of named procedures.
| You come in with | What usually happens first |
|---|---|
| Heavy, painful or irregular periods | Examination, pelvic ultrasound, haemoglobin and thyroid where indicated. Medical treatment before surgery in most cases. |
| Delayed pregnancy | Both partners assessed together — cycle history, scan, semen analysis. Fertility treatment including IVF is covered further down; see also PCOS and fertility if cycles are irregular. |
| A fibroid found on a scan | Size, position and symptoms decide everything. Explained in full on fibroid treatment. |
| Pregnancy, routine or complicated | Booking visit, dating scan, and a visit schedule. See high-risk pregnancy care. |
| Contraception, menopause, a screening check | Consultation, examination, and a written plan. Nothing is done the same day unless you want it done. |
Heavy menstrual bleeding deserves a word of its own. NFHS-5 found 57% of Indian women aged 15 to 49 anaemic, up from 53% in the previous round. In practice, a woman living with heavy periods is often also living with a haemoglobin low enough to explain the tiredness she has stopped mentioning — worth treating earlier than the textbook thresholds suggest, and usually treatable without surgery.
Ultrasound, and what the law allows
Pelvic, obstetric and colour Doppler scanning is done in-house, in the same visit as the consultation, so a report is not a second trip.
Surgery: what is done here, and what is not
Being straight about this matters more than a longer list would.
| Procedure | Where |
|---|---|
| Laparoscopic surgery — ovarian cysts, endometriosis, adhesions, ectopic pregnancy, hysterectomy | In-house at Naroda |
| Hysteroscopy, diagnostic and operative | In-house at Naroda |
| Hysteroscopic myomectomy (submucosal fibroid) | In-house, up to 3 cm fibroid size |
| Caesarean section, normal delivery, D&C | In-house at Naroda |
| Uterine artery embolisation | Referred out — not performed here |
| Robot-assisted surgery | Performed by Dr. Rahul Khatri at Apollo Hospital, Gandhinagar. There is no surgical robot at Cosmic. |
On the robot, the honest position is the one the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists takes: for non-cancerous gynaecological surgery, robot-assisted operating gives results equivalent to conventional laparoscopy, with longer operating time and higher cost. Its advantages are real only in selected difficult cases — deep endometriosis, a very large uterus, high BMI, complex myomectomy, cancer staging. For most operations a woman from Bapunagar needs, standard laparoscopy at Naroda is the right answer.
For fibroids, NICE guidance treats a hormonal intrauterine system as reasonable first-line treatment for heavy bleeding with fibroids under 3 cm that are not distorting the cavity, and recommends specialist referral at 3 cm or more. Our own hysteroscopic limit of 3 cm sits at the same line.
IVF and fertility treatment, for couples from Bapunagar
The nearest full fertility unit to Bapunagar is our own, at Naroda. Cosmic holds Level 2 ART registration under the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021 — which is the registration a clinic must hold to perform IVF, ICSI and embryo freezing lawfully, and is worth checking before you commit to any centre anywhere in the city.
Dr. Bhargavi Khatri leads the IVF programme and performs the procedures herself — egg retrieval, embryo transfer, and the operative work. The unit also has a clinical embryologist, a visiting andrologist for male-factor work and a visiting anaesthetist, all named on the hospital’s ART registration.
What the fertility programme covers
| Treatment | Who it is usually for |
|---|---|
| Ovulation induction and follicle tracking | Irregular cycles, PCOS, where the tubes are open and the semen analysis is normal |
| IUI (intrauterine insemination) | Mild male factor, unexplained infertility, cervical factor. Discussed fully in IUI or IVF |
| IVF | Blocked or damaged tubes, failed IUI cycles, age-related decline, endometriosis |
| ICSI | Significant male factor — low count, poor motility, poor morphology |
| Surgical sperm retrieval — PESA, MESA, TESA and micro-TESE | Azoospermia. See azoospermia and sperm retrieval |
| Embryo freezing and genetic screening (PGT) | Where a cycle is deliberately split, or where a genetic indication exists |
Before any of that, both partners are assessed at the same visit — there is no point investigating one half of a couple. The semen analysis matters as much as the scan, and how a semen analysis is actually read is worth understanding before the report worries you. If you are not yet sure whether you need IVF at all, do you need IVF sets out the situations where the honest answer is no.
What a cycle asks of you, coming from Bapunagar
The part couples underestimate is not the procedure — it is the monitoring. Once a cycle starts, follicle tracking means repeat scans a few days apart, each one short, and the retrieval and transfer are on dates the cycle decides rather than dates you choose. Coming from Bapunagar that is manageable, but it needs a fortnight in which you can get here on short notice. The full sequence is set out in the IVF process step by step, and what drives the cost is broken down in IVF cost in Ahmedabad.
You will not find a success-rate percentage anywhere on this page or on this site, and that is deliberate. The ART Act restricts advertising of assisted reproduction, India publishes no national ART registry outcome data against which any clinic’s figure could honestly be compared, and a single number quoted without an age band and a cycle type is close to meaningless. What you will get in the consultation is your own realistic position, explained against your age, your scan and your reports — and where the honest answer is that the chance is low, you will be told that too.
Making one visit do the work of three
For a woman travelling in, the useful thing is not a shorter road. It is not having to come back three times for what could be done once.
If this is your first gynaecology appointment, or your first in many years, our guide to a first visit to a gynaecologist goes through the examination itself, what to bring, and what you are entitled to ask for.
What a visit costs
Consultation and scan charges are fixed and published. Laboratory tests and procedures are quoted to you before anything is done.

| New case, infertility | Rs 1,000 | First consultation free |

| Pelvic (gynaecological) ultrasound | Rs 1,200 |

Two things worth doing before you come: say on the telephone which doctor you want to see, and mention the first day of your last period. Both decide the slot you are given, and both save a second journey.
More on the hospital as a whole, including the full service list and fees, is on our main page for a gynaecologist in Naroda. For the fertility unit specifically — the laboratory, the team and the registration — see our IVF centre in Naroda.
