Gynaecologist in Naroda, Ahmedabad
This page is for women in Naroda and the neighbourhoods around it — Nava Naroda, Naroda GIDC, Nikol, Bapunagar, Kubernagar, Thakkarbapa Nagar — who are trying to work out where to go, what it will involve, and whether the problem is worth a consultation at all.
It is deliberately plain. It sets out when the OPD runs, what is treated here, what a first visit actually consists of, and what is not done at this hospital, so that you are not sent away after travelling.
When the OPD runs
The hospital OPD runs Monday to Saturday, 10 am to 8 pm. Within that:
- Dr. Rahul Khatri consults 10 am to 1 pm and 5 pm to 8 pm.
- Dr. Bhargavi Khatri consults 1 pm to 4.30 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm.
Between them there is a consultant in the OPD through most of the day, which is worth knowing if you can only come at a particular time. There is no Sunday OPD — Sunday is emergency only. Obstetric and gynaecological emergency cover is available 24 hours, every day.
If you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy, the delivery side of the hospital is set out separately on our page for a maternity hospital in Naroda — antenatal schedule, scans, delivery and caesarean, and what happens at night.
What is treated here
This is a women’s hospital rather than a general clinic, so the range is narrower and deeper than a family practice.
| Area | What comes to the OPD |
|---|---|
| Periods | Heavy, painful, irregular or absent periods; bleeding between periods; bleeding after intercourse; bleeding after menopause. |
| PCOS and hormones | Irregular cycles with weight gain, acne or excess hair; thyroid and prolactin problems affecting cycles. See PCOS treatment in Ahmedabad and PCOS and fertility. |
| Lumps and growths | Fibroids, ovarian cysts, endometriosis. See fibroid treatment and endometriosis treatment. |
| Infection and discharge | Persistent discharge, itching, burning, recurrent urinary symptoms, pelvic pain. |
| Contraception | Counselling and provision, including intrauterine devices and permanent methods. |
| Screening | Cervical screening (Pap smear), breast examination, and advice on what screening is actually worth doing at your age. |
| Menopause | Hot flushes, sleep and mood changes, vaginal dryness, bone health. |
| Pregnancy | Routine antenatal care, scans, and high-risk pregnancy. See high-risk pregnancy care. |
| Fertility | Investigation of both partners, IUI, IVF and ICSI. See the IVF centre in Naroda. |
| Surgery | Laparoscopic and hysteroscopic gynaecological surgery, and caesarean and normal delivery. |
What should not wait for a convenient day
Most gynaecological problems are not urgent, and waiting a week or two changes nothing. A few are different. Come in without waiting for:
- Bleeding that soaks a pad in under an hour, or bleeding with dizziness or fainting.
- Any bleeding after menopause, however small, even once.
- Severe one-sided lower abdominal pain, particularly with a missed period.
- Fever with lower abdominal pain and offensive discharge.
- A positive pregnancy test with pain or bleeding.
The longer list, and the reasoning behind it, is in five things not worth waiting on.
What a first visit involves
The consultation begins with talking, and that part matters more than most people expect. Cycle dates, past pregnancies and deliveries, previous operations, current medicines and any family history of cancer will shape everything that follows. Vague recall is normal — bring what you have rather than trying to remember it in the room.
On examination. A gynaecological examination is not routine at every visit. It is done when it is needed to answer the question, and a female attendant is present throughout. If you would prefer to be seen by a female doctor, book into Dr. Bhargavi Khatri’s session — 1 pm to 4.30 pm or 6 pm to 8 pm.
On scans. A pelvic ultrasound is often done in the same visit, because for most gynaecological complaints it is the single test that changes the answer. It is done in the hospital, so you are not sent elsewhere and asked to return.
Coming from the other side of Naroda? There is a separate page for women travelling in from Nikol, one for Bapunagar, one for Kubernagar, one for Nava Naroda and Naroda GIDC, and one for couples coming from Dehgam and Chiloda.
PC&PNDT notice. Prenatal sex determination is not done at this hospital and is prohibited by law under the Pre-conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques Act, 1994. All ultrasound examinations here are performed for medical indications only.

What is available in the hospital
- Ultrasound in the OPD, including colour Doppler and 3D/4D obstetric scanning.
- Laboratory for routine blood work, hormones and cultures.
- Operating theatre for laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery and for deliveries.
- Level 2 ART unit with an embryology laboratory, registered under the ART (Regulation) Act, 2021 (Certificate No. GS/AHD/165).
- 24-hour obstetric emergency cover.
Surgery, and how the approach is chosen
Most gynaecological operations here are done by keyhole. What is operated laparoscopically and hysteroscopically, procedure by procedure, is set out in full on our page for the laparoscopic surgeon in Ahmedabad.
Most gynaecological operations that used to need a large incision are now done through keyhole surgery, and recovery is measurably shorter. That does not mean keyhole is right for everyone: a very large fibroid, dense adhesions from previous surgery, or a suspected cancer can all make open surgery the safer choice. The decision turns on your scans and your previous operation notes, which is why you are asked to bring them.
- Laparoscopic gynaecological surgery — what is done through keyhole and what recovery is really like.
- Robotic or laparoscopic surgery — an honest comparison, including where robotic surgery adds nothing.
Where operations are performed. Laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery is performed at Cosmic Women’s Hospital & IVF Center, Naroda. There is no surgical robot on site; Dr. Rahul Khatri performs robotic surgery at Apollo Hospital, Gandhinagar, where he is attached as a consultant. If robotic surgery is the right operation for you it will be scheduled there, and the difference in cost will be explained in advance.
Who you will see
Dr. Rahul Khatri (MBBS, MS & DNB Obgy, FMAS) is a consulting obstetrician-gynaecologist and laparoscopic and robotic surgeon, and Director of the hospital. He consults 10 am to 1 pm and 5 pm to 8 pm.
Dr. Bhargavi Khatri (MBBS, MS Obgy Gold Medalist, FRM) is a consulting obstetrician-gynaecologist and infertility and IVF specialist. She consults 1 pm to 4.30 pm and 6 pm to 8 pm.
If you would rather see a female doctor, ask for Dr. Bhargavi Khatri’s session when you book. Fertility work is supported by a registered ART team including a clinical embryologist, a visiting andrologist and a visiting anaesthetist.
What a visit costs
| Consultation | Fee | On Wednesday |
|---|---|---|
| New case, general gynaecology | ₹500 | Free |
| New case, infertility | ₹1,000 | Free |
| Follow-up | ₹300 | ₹300 |
On Wednesdays the first consultation is free, for general gynaecology and for infertility alike. Follow-up visits are charged as usual.
| Scan | Fee |
|---|---|
| Pelvic (gynaecological) ultrasound | ₹1,200 |
| Obstetric ultrasound | ₹1,200 |
| Colour Doppler | ₹1,500 |
Other scans, laboratory tests and procedures are charged separately and are quoted at the desk before anything is done. For anything beyond a consultation you are given an itemised written estimate before treatment begins, and nothing is added afterwards without telling you first.
If cost is the reason you have been putting off a consultation, say so at the desk — it is a more common reason than most people admit, and it can usually be worked around.
