IVF and gynaecology for families travelling from Dehgam

Cosmic Women’s Hospital sits at the Ahmedabad end of the Naroda–Dehgam road. We are not in Dehgam, and this page does not pretend otherwise — but for most families in Dehgam and the villages around it, Naroda is the near edge of Ahmedabad rather than the far side of it. You reach us on one straight road without crossing the city, and you can be back the same afternoon.

What follows is written for couples and women making that journey: what can realistically be finished in one visit, which day of the month to travel on so the journey is not wasted, and what it costs.

One visit, not four

The usual complaint from patients travelling in from outside Ahmedabad is not the distance. It is being sent home to come back for a scan, then again for blood reports, then again because the husband’s test was never arranged. We carry out one-day work-ups for exactly this reason: both partners are seen, the scan and the blood samples are done in the same sitting, the semen analysis is done in our own laboratory, and the reports are discussed with you before you leave.

Everything in the five boxes happens on the day you arrive. Come early — the laboratory work takes a few hours, so a morning arrival is what makes the same-day discussion possible.

Which day to travel on

This is the single thing that decides whether one journey is enough. Several fertility tests are only meaningful on particular days of the menstrual cycle; done on the wrong day they have to be repeated, and that is a second journey. If you can choose your day, travel on day 2, 3 or 4 of your period — day 1 being the first day of proper bleeding, not spotting.

WHEN TO TRAVELPick the day, and one journey does the work of threeDAY 2–4Baseline hormones: FSH, LH, estradiolday 2–4Antral follicle count, done on the same scanbest early in the cycleAMH, thyroid, prolactin, haemoglobinany daySemen analysis — 2 to 5 days of abstinence firstany day151015202528DAY OF THE CYCLE — DAY 1 IS THE FIRST DAY OF PROPER BLEEDING
Coming during the first few days of bleeding lets the baseline hormones and the antral follicle count be done on the same visit as everything else. Nothing here needs an empty stomach except the blood sugar, if that is being checked.

Tell your husband before you set out. A semen analysis needs 2 to 5 days without ejaculation beforehand. It is the commonest reason a couple’s one-day work-up turns into two visits, and it is entirely avoidable.

What to carry

  • The date your last period started — the actual date.
  • Every old report you have, in whatever form: scan films or CDs, blood reports, discharge summaries, operation notes, old prescriptions. Reports from two or three years ago are still useful.
  • The medicine strips themselves, including thyroid, diabetes and blood pressure tablets.
  • Any earlier semen report, and roughly how long you have been trying.
  • Photo ID, and your insurance or TPA card if admission or surgery may come up.

What cannot be finished the same day

Three tests are fixed to points in the cycle and no amount of planning moves them: the HSG (tubal patency test), follicle tracking, and the mid-luteal progesterone that confirms ovulation. These are dated for you before you leave, so the second journey — if one is needed at all — happens on a day that counts. The reasoning is set out in more detail in what happens at a first gynaecology visit.

What it costs

Consultation Fee On Wednesday
New case, general gynaecology ₹500 First consultation not charged
New case, infertility ₹1,000 First consultation not charged
Follow-up visit ₹300 ₹300
Scan Charge
Pelvic (gynaecological) ultrasound ₹1,200
Obstetric ultrasound ₹1,200
Colour Doppler ₹1,500

Laboratory tests and procedures are charged separately, and the cost is told to you before anything is done. If you are weighing up IVF specifically, the cost structure is broken down on our IVF cost in Ahmedabad page, and the treatment itself on our IVF centre page.

If you are coming about a pregnancy rather than fertility

The same journey works for antenatal care. Ultrasound is done in-house, so a scan advised at the consultation is almost always done the same day rather than sent elsewhere, and growth scans with colour Doppler are done here too. Obstetric emergency cover runs 24 hours, every day — if you are booked with us and something happens at night, you do not need to find an alternative first. Deliveries, caesarean sections and high-risk pregnancy care are all handled at Naroda; see high-risk pregnancy care if that applies to you.

Couples coming from Chiloda may prefer our page on what an IVF cycle actually asks of you — how many visits it needs and which days cannot be moved.

Coming to us

OPD runs Monday to Saturday, 10.00 am to 8.00 pm, closed Sunday except for emergencies. Dr. Rahul Khatri consults 10.00 am to 1.00 pm and 5.00 pm to 8.00 pm. Dr. Bhargavi Khatri consults 1.00 pm to 4.30 pm and 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm — if you would prefer to see a woman doctor, say so when you telephone and you will be given one of her slots.

Walk-in registration is accepted, but for a one-day work-up please telephone first on 77-9383-9383. It lets us keep the laboratory and the scan slot free for you, and it is the difference between finishing by afternoon and waiting.
